posts are always tricky!

I’m a geeky art director on the Kansas side of the KC metro. I have also been volunteering as an election worker for the last several years.

Here are just a few of the things I am interested in:

Really hate how much of my near future nanowrimo book is coming true. 🙃🙃🙃

Just tried ChatGPT. I asked it a series of specific Qs about areas I've studied in detail.

On all Qs, it gave answers that are plausible sounding but wrong. Not obviously wrong: wrong in subtle ways that need deep domain knowledge to grasp.

The ways humans will be practically misled by this kind of tech if trusted with, say, doling out medical, legal or business advice is horrific.

Letting this tech loose on the world will further destroy search engines that are already riddled with SEO BS.

If you are concerned about "free speech," you should probably be concerned about the top Republican candidate for the presidency calling for the Constitution, which includes the First Amendment, to be suspended.

Members of Congress take an oath to "defend the Constitution."

Trump just called for the Constitution to be "terminated."

How can a member of Congress support Trump without violating their oath?

If you're like me, then you were really happy to learn about Mastodon's enthusiastic support for image descriptions, and you were really eager to join in.

Then you went to actually write something and realized you have no idea how to present visual information in a way that is helpful/enjoyable to those who are #VisuallyImpaired or #Blind.

I found this guide really informative: uxdesign.cc/how-to-write-an-im

Of course, I'd also love to hear any additional tips y'all might have!

If you think it’s horrible one billionaire bought up the public square and killed it, wait until you find out why your city doesn’t have a trolley system

Did you know that if you capitalize each word in a multi-word hashtag, #ScreenReaders can read them as words, but if you leave them lowercase, they can't? Well, now you know! So, for #accessibility, please capitalize words when there's more than one in a hashtag.

1. In 2017, Republicans in Congress and Trump passed a massive corporate tax cut with no Dem support.

In that bill, they included ONE PROVISION, starting in 2022, that would offset a small portion of the cuts

Now corporations are demanding its repeal

Do I have this right.. the same people spouting “vox populi, vox dei” don’t believe the president should be elected via a popular majority?

TFG?

Apparently TFG means The Former Guy and not That Fucking Guy.

I prefer my definition more.

A warning about deactivating your birdsite account

Your Twitter handle can be registered by anyone 30 days after deactivation. If impersonation is in your threat model, lock your account and park it.

Still really struggling with what everything is called on this app. I moved instances yesterday in the hope I stumble into more local people.

In a meeting yesterday with several people who have my job around the region, someone brought up this app and I was the only other person who had started playing with it.

Anyhow I figured I should post more than I did on the bird app just to see.
